Abstract
- The authors reflect on issues concerning antibiotic use and resistance. They describe the costs associated with treating resistant nosocomial infections in the U.S. and Europe, along with the problems associated with multidrug resistance and the establishment of a transatlantic task force on antimicrobial resistance. They argue that in order to address antibiotic resistance, new technologies and antibacterials must be developed. In addition, they say that the optimal dosing regimens for antibacterials should be standardized.
