Abstract

The conditions for formation of individual isopolytungstates in solutions of the Sr(NO<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>-Na<subscript>2</subscript>WO<subscript>4</subscript>-HNO<subscript>3</subscript>-H<subscript>2</subscript>O system acidified to Z = ν(H<superscript>+</superscript>)/ν(WO) = 1.29 were studied. The conditions of formation of strontium paratungstate B, strontium hydroheptatungstate, and hydrogen strontium paratungstate were determined. An X-ray diffraction study of single crystals of Sr<subscript>4.5</subscript>H[W<subscript>12</subscript>O<subscript>40</subscript>(OH)<subscript>2</subscript>] · 30H<subscript>2</subscript>O was carried out. Selected crystallographic data for H<subscript>63</subscript>O<subscript>72</subscript>Sr<subscript>4.50</subscript>W<subscript>12</subscript> are: M<subscript> r</subscript> = 3815.99, monoclinic, space group P2<subscript>1</subscript>/ c, a = 11.41270(10) Å, b = 23.7575(3) Å, c = 12.4392(2) Å, β = 110.476(2)°, V = 3159.64(7) Å<superscript>3</superscript> at T = 293 K, Z = 2, ρ = 4.011 g/cm<superscript>3</superscript>, F<subscript>000</subscript> = 3396, μ(Mo K<subscript>α</subscript>) = 25.635 mm<superscript>−1</superscript>, −14 ≤ h ≤ 14, −30 ≤ k ≤ 30, −16 ≤ l ≤ 16, R<subscript>F</subscript> = 0.0430, wR<superscript>2</superscript> = 0.1067 ( R<subscript>F</subscript> = 0.0506, wR<superscript>2</superscript> = 0.1129), and S = 1.043.
