Abstract

The author reports on difficulties which are faced by the central business districts of satellite cities such as Oakland, California. DIfficulties which are being faced by residents and business owners of satellite cities are discussed including the increase of the cost of municipal services, traffic by automobiles and a population imbalance. Various ways in which the author feels cities can deal with these problems are discussed, including the building of freeways, rapid transit systems and shopping malls. The author's opinions regarding the way in which these projects need to be handled in order for them to succeed are discussed.
