Abstract

Over the past decade, operative treatment of vertebral burst fractures has become common. To assess the success of closed or open reduction of displaced vertebral spinal fragments, imaging methods such as fluoroscopy, ultrasound and myelography are used. As with every procedure, a number of potential sources of error exist. We report 2 cases with neurologic complications after failed intraoperative myelography. In order to avoid such complications, recommendations for a safe technique are given. We present our method of treating vertebral burst fractures with and without neurologic deficit.
