Abstract

We investigated 270 patients (321 hips) treated by Lord-type cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA) and reported results in 234 hips that could be directly observed among 251 that were 5-year or more after operation. The mean Merle d'Aubigné and Postel hip score improved from 8.9 before operation to 15.7 at the final follow-up. However, our 20-year experience showed revision due to aseptic loosening in 27 patients. In particular, biological fixation could not be achieved in some cases treated using a screw-in ring for acetabular dysplasia or using the Fluted type stem with a smooth surface. This may be the cause of aseptic loosening, and further follow up is necessary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
