Abstract
- The article focuses on the replication of a 1970 Safeway supermarket unit pricing study conducted in Washington, D.C. shortly after the introduction of unit pricing into supermarkets. The circumstances and research methodology of the original study and the replication study conducted in 1980 using the same two stores is presented. The overall awareness, comprehension, and usage results of both studies are compared, and the implications of the studies are discussed in terms of the effectiveness of unit pricing and consumer information programs.
