Abstract

The article discusses the use of management science techniques to solve marketing problems facing retailers. The author notes several areas that retailers can benefit from the use of management science techniques, including decisions surrounding the location, building and layout of retail stores. Also discussed are decisions facing retailers surrounding their products. The author notes that by combining test market results with estimated capital requirements and operating costs, retailers are able to estimate the amount of return each product will bring and therefore more effectively choose which products they will carry.
