Abstract

The time has come to take a fresh look at business education and at the schools of business administration in which it is presumed to take place. Modern business operates in the most dynamic and fluid environment ever known to man. Rapid technological obsolescence has become the norm in business and some of the most fundamental values of business and society appear to be in a state of flux. When one looks at schools of business administration however, one gets the uneasy feeling that very little has occurred in the last ten or fifteen years to adapt business education to these new realities. The purpose of this paper is to examine some of the assumptions that currently guide policy-making in schools of business administration in light of recent changes to ascertain whether they are still relevant. It will be shown that another plausible set of assumptions could be used which, if followed, would lead to some profound differences in the way business education should be pursued.
