Abstract

A mixture of three polyethylene oxides bearing alkyl chains of different lengths C<subscript>12</subscript>H<subscript>25</subscript>O(CH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>n</subscript>H, C<subscript>16</subscript>H<subscript>33</subscript>O(CH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>n</subscript>H, C<subscript>18</subscript>H<subscript>37</subscript>O(CH<subscript>2</subscript>CH<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>n</subscript>H have been analyzed by different techniques: two-dimensional LC, MALDI-TOF, ESI-MS and LC-MS. Among these techniques, the LC-MS coupling allowed the fastest analysis (4 min versus 2 h in two-dimensional LC). In addition, the complexity of the mass spectra deduced from LC-MS experiments was simplified compared to the mass spectra obtained by MALDI-TOF and ESI-MS. Overlaps of isobaric ions were avoided and by-products were identified more easily. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
