Abstract: The article presents basic facts about Latvia. The country's total population as of 2009 was 2.26 million. Its main towns are the capital city Riga, Liepaja and Jurmala. Latvian is the primary language used in the country but for some 26% of the population, Russian is the main language of communication. Among the public holidays celebrated in the country are Labour Day, Good Friday and National Independence Day.
