Abstract

The article discusses the creation of a three dimensional (3-D) multicellular synovial lining using cultured fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) in a spherical extracellular matrix (ECM) micromasses. It mentions that the FLS form into a complex architecture which corresponds to the hyperplasia of macrophages in the synovial lining in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It states that the findings are essential in determining the inherent function of FLS.
