Abstract
- The article discusses a multidimensional approach to measuring poverty, which considers not only the financial aspect but also whether or not people have enough food, access to health care, transportation, and sanitation. Economists James E. Foster and Amartya Sen wrote a book called "On Economic Inequality" that contains a chapter on multidimensional poverty that Sen is known for having pioneered. Foster is also known for developing a method for calculating income-based poverty that has become the standard in international poverty research. The country of Mexico's adoption of Foster and economist Sabina Alkire's poverty measurement is discussed.
