Abstract
- The article discusses the study which examines the debris-covered glaciers and large glacial lakes at the terminus of the Himalaya mountains in Nepal. It notes that the lakes have grown since the 1950s and 1960s which present the potential hazard of glacial-lake outburst floods. It adds that the glaciers have recorded a relatively large lowering of their surface and are likely to develop glacial lakes at their terminus. It confirms that the lowering of the glacier surface could result in the formation of supraglacial ponds and the commencement of calving at the glacial lake.
