Abstract

The article discusses the mump outbreak in New York and New Jersey that started in June 2009. The index case was on an 11-years old male who returned from his travel to Great Britain on June 17, 2009. During the period, there were around 7,400 reports of laboratory-verified mumps obtained by the British Health Protection Agency. It also cites the action taken by the U.S. government to prevent the spread of the disease, including the conduct of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination.
