Abstract

The article presents the first report of Streptomyces acidiscabies causing potato scab in China. Potato scab disease was first observed in 2004 on potato tubers in Shandong Sheng, a province in China after which traditional and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was employed to identify the cause. Since pathogenicity test by inoculating potato plants of cv. Favorita showed no symptoms on control plants, pathogen was re-isolated from lesions of immature tubers and identified as S. acidiscabies.
