Abstract
- The article discusses the efforts of the Parkland Health and Hospital System, based in Dallas, Texas, in acquiring and implementing an electronic medical record (EMR) system. The difficulties encountered during the installation of EMR are cited, along with the advantages of having an EMR system. A brief background on the company's strategic planning and related information technology (IT) purchases is also provided. An analysis of urban hospitals showed that a 10% increase in computerization of records led to a 15% decline in fatalities.
