Abstract

The article describes the use of a digital elevation model (DEM) and geographic information systems (GIS) spatial functions in quantifying mountains in China and their spatial patterns. It states that spatial analysis is a very important function because it differentiates GIS from computer cartography systems. Mountain quantification is reportedly important in developing digital mountains and other information systems. Information on the classification of the mountains is presented.
