Abstract

The article discusses the actions taken by the music industry to resolve music piracy amid technological change. Attempts to enforce property rights are cited as the initial response of the music industry to file-sharing. The sector also filed lawsuit against individual users when lawsuits against peer-to-peer file-sharing networks failed to address illegal downloading. Some of the new business models in the digital age are the liberal use of downloaded music and the inclusion of complementary products. The significance of digitization of music is noted.
