The article discusses the highlights of the Europgraphics 2009 Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval which was held in Munich, Germany on March 29, 2009. Among the papers submitted at the event were those by Raif Rustamov describing a new three-dimensional (3D) shape descriptor that maps the surface features onto a template surface, Kanezaki and colleagues on a new 3D shape features that considers an object's nature and Bucksch and colleagues on a new algorithm aimed at the skeletonisation of a laser scanner point cloud representing a botanical tree.
