Abstract: The article traces the evolution of contrast enhanced ultrasound imaging (CEUS). It provides a background of the origins of the development of ultrasound contrast agents for diagnostic applications. It outlines the parameters defining the role of CEUS in the non-invasive diagnostic imaging field, including real-time processing, established user base, portability and economy. It discusses the application of CEUS in the visualization of left ventricular opacification.
