Abstract
- The article focuses on the controversies that high-profile artists face as the response of the government of various countries on their use of stature to campaign human rights issues. The government of Iran tightened censorship and restricted foreign travel of artists who have responded to the state's prosecution of dissidents with boycotts of government awards and speeches. It is cited that in Syria, artist-activist Talal Abu Dan's case was upheld by the court for his help in the call for democratic political reform. It also mentions Drik Media Agency founder Shanidul Alam who was detained at the border since he stayed across the boundary while photographing the Brahmaputra River.
