Abstract

The article discusses employee codetermination and industrial policy in the German steel industry and how these business aspects have affected the behavior of labor unions, managers and employees. There is a historical partnership between unions and managers in decision-making processes that is appealing beyond this industry and has been looked at by other countries as a realistic alternative. The author also explains that one of the drawbacks of this system is that managers and employees begin to rely more on federal subsidies.
