Abstract
- The article details a study which examined the prevalence and causes of unreported operative and late mortality related to laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB). The study was conducted among the members of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS). Of the 453 survey respondents, nine percent reported at least one operative mortality and a total of 36 operative deaths and 19 late mortalities were discovered. Study authors concluded that LAGB is associated with short- and long-term mortality.
