Abstract
- Analyzes legislative debates in the United States that gave rise to the original Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 and the 1997 amendments in the light of ethical theories. Issue of encirclement of dolphins by purse seine nets when fishing for yellowfin tuna in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean; Commercial pressure on tuna seiners; Mexico's complaints on the U.S. ban on imports of tuna caught by Mexican fishermen.
