Abstract
- This article examines the role and work of the Cabinet Office during the first two terms of the Conservative government, from 1979-87, in Great Britain. There were difficulties in writing the article which includes: (1) problems with secrecy; (2) imperfections in the interview process; (3) there was no one way of conducting business, and different pressures, crises, and other political bickerings; and (4) problems of perspective. During the administration of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher various changes and reforms to the Cabinet Office and to the roles and responsibilities of the Cabinet Secretary as well.
