Abstract

This article reports on the growing demand for energy-efficient laundry systems in the U.S. market. According to Jim Skaggs of GE, higher-efficiency washers can lead to as much as 6-70% reduction in energy bills. Also, some U.S. states offer rebates to consumers buying eco-friendly washers and dryers. Monica Teague of Whirlpool and Maytag says today's high-efficiency washers can clean with just 18 gallons of water due to developments such as the use of a smaller agitator and changes in how clothes are used moved during wash cycles.
