Abstract

The article reports on the drop of job fatalities by a total of 5,071 in 2008 from 5,657 in 2007 in the U.S. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), economic factors probably played a role in fatality decrease. It is also mentioned that some industries experienced drop in employment or hours worked because of a significant share of worker fatalities. An overview of the 2008 census findings of Fatal Occupational Injuries is also presented.
