Abstract

The article discusses black liquor gasification which is a process for recovering the energy and chemicals in black liquor produced from the Kraft pulping process. The process, which can be combined with catalytic conversion of synthesis gas (syngas) into motor fuels, holds potential for the production of motor fuel from black liquor. The article focuses on the results obtained by spatially resolved measurements of the composition of gas in the DP-1 gasifier, which is a pressurized black liquor gasifier that contains a water cooled quench probe, in Sweden. Results from several detailed experiments using high-speed photography of black liquor sprays are also discussed in-depth.
