Abstract

The author reflects on ethical and legal issues in medicine in India. He cites that the issues that physicians should always consider when making decisions include those regarding autonomy, confidentiality and beneficence. He states that guidelines for charging a physician for climinal negligence have been issued by the Supreme Court. Other issues he mentions are the changing relationships between physicians and patients, the need for ethical training and informed consent.
