The article discusses the culmination of 15 years of archaeological research in Ethiopia with the unveiling of a skeleton of a human ancestor or hominid called Ardipithecus ramidus, and nicknamed Ardi. It notes numerous technical papers on the find published in a special issue of "Science" and its relation to the previously unearthed Australopithecus afarensis called Lucy.
