Abstract
- The article presents a discussion on the development of fricative and non-fricative sibilance in Turkish languages. Comments are given on the importance of sibilance study to the segmentation of Turkish languages. Note is taken of genetic and areal aspects of Turkish pronunciation throughout history. Quotations are included from linguistic research by English Orientalist Gerard Leslie Makins Clauson on Turkish sibilance. Further information is presented regarding various pronunciations of the Turkish word for an iron plate or pan.
