Abstract

The article focuses on a study which found that large orchid populations alleviate harmful effects of extreme weather conditions on fruit set in Orchis purpurea and Neottia (Listera) ovata. It notes that there is much higher stability of fruit production in huge orchid populations in comparison to small populations. Also cited is the potential vulnerability of small orchid populations to increasingly changeable climate through highly unpredictable fruit-set patterns based on the results of the study.
