Abstract

The article discusses how Indigenous women artists in Canada deal with activism and feminism. The author talks about the several relations between the socially constructed terms of activism, feminism, and Indigenous artists. The author also discusses how these terms relate to colonization, hegemonic western art practices, and the lack of female Indigenous artists in the mainstream art community. Indigenous artists discussed in the article include Colleen Cutschall, Rosanna Deerchild, and Lita Fontaine.
