In this article, the author comments on an article on potential output by Susanto Basu and John G. Fernald, published within this issue. The theoretical models of potential output used as a framework for policy evaluation are appreciated. The author assesses situations about future productivity growth. The author favors the path of the policy-based economic research outlined in the article by Basu and Fernald.
