Abstract

The article focuses on the Puppies in Prisons (PIP), a pilot programme to train service dogs, operated by the Mobility Assistance Dogs charitable trust in partnership with the New Zealand. Department of Corrections. It discusses the benefits of the PIP, launched in 2008, and currently being carried out at Auckland Women's Prison, Auckland, New Zealand, by involving inmates, especially those suffering from diseases like cerebral palsy. Some prisoners plan to pursue puppy-raising after release.
