Abstract

This article discusses a study released by the Women's Health Initiative on the association between hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and coronary heart disease (CHD). The WHI reversed its previous findings on the risk of cardiovascular disease related to HRT. The WHI proposes that women who start HRT following menopause reduce their risk of CHD. The WHI report is a joint analysis of the combined and estrogen-alone arms of the original trial. The findings received criticism from the media in Great Britain and the U.S.
