Abstract
- The author offers a critique on Kieran Egan's views on teaching social studies. For Egan, social studies should be abolished and instead students ought to be taught academic history. Egan further asserts that social studies is founded on misguided perceptions of children's cognitive development. It is the opinion of the author that Egan has misinterpreted the stance of John Dewey on social studies curriculum. The author also addressed the other arguments raised by Egan like students not needing to reach their own interpretations of history.
