Abstract

The article presents a political stability risk assessment for Japan as of November 2008. It is stated that Japan has a relatively stable political environment, with the political scene dominated by personalities and connections rather than ideology. The author observes that the increase of international tensions may be caused by rising nationalism in the country. Several risk scenarios are discussed, which include a poor lower house election result that forces prime minister Yasuo Fukuda to resign.
