Abstract

The article presents a study which determines the role of Xinanjiang model in flood forecasting in China. It states that the model is a rainfall-runoff model that is widely used in humid, semi-humid, and dry area in the country for flood forecasting. Accordingly, Xinanjiang model is coupled by kinematic wave method based on a digital drainage network. It notes that the main advantage of the model is that it can determine the spatial distribution of soil moisture storage. Moreover, topography and land use data are used by kinematic wave of Xinanjiang model to simulate runoff and overland flow routing. The Kinematic wave of the model was also used as overland flow routing model for the rainfall-runoff model grid.
