Abstract

The article discusses research done on phosphorylated chitin (P-chitin), a material which has potential biomedical applications related to tissue regeneration. The P-chitin was synthesized using the H3PO4/P2O5/ET3PO4/hexanol method, the article states. Topics include the unique polysaccharide architecture of chitin, the structural similarity of chitin to cellulose, and the generation of new bifunctional materials by means of chemically modifying chitin. Also discussed is the selection of the synthesis process in order to obtain products free of biologically hazardous chemical compounds.
