Abstract

The attempt to pass the labor law reform bill of 1978 engendered a bitter campaign on the part of business leaders for its defeat. In the end, Congress failed to pass the bill, despite the backing of the unions and of the Carter administration. The unions, who considered the bill to be fairly mild, were shaken by the unexpected animosity of business leaders. This author explains how business reaction to this piece of legislation may have soured relations between the two sides for some time to come. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
