Abstract

The article discusses how corporations can counteract the stifling restraints of paper bureaucracy. Corporate growth has both advantages and disadvantages. With growth comes increasing paper works which become more important than people, and rules and regulations develop that inhibit the individual from making his or her full contribution, unless management takes steps to counteract them. This is why large or growing organizations must constantly mount a war on paper bureaucracy. The author details Marks & Spencer's successful campaign against excessive paper works, forms, rules, and regulations. He further cites examples that indicate the kinds of improvements that can be expected by other organizations launching similar campaigns on excessive paper works, wastes, and procedures.
