Trade with Russia and her satellite nations is a topic with business, political, and emotional overtones. Because of the importance of the subject, HBR has sponsored this quantitative and qualitative exploration of the pros and cons of such trade, paying particular attention to the experiences of companies engaging in it. The authors are Marshall I. Goldman, Associate Professor of Economics at Wellesley College and Associate of the Harvard Russian Research Center, and Alice Conner, who served as Research Assistant for the International Marketing Institute on this project.
