MANAGEMENT OF OBESITY IN THE ELDERLY: TOO MUCH AND TOO LATE?

The article discusses management of obesity in older people. The projected increase in prevalence of overweight and obesity in older people in the U.S. range from 32.0% to 37.4% between 2000 and 2010. The healthcare cost of managing obesity, mortality rate and diseases such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes and cardiovascular risk associated with obesity are tackled. The body composition, biochemical and hormonal changes associated with aging are detailed.
