Abstract

The article describes the endangered fish, Poecilia latipunctata. It belongs to the family Poeciliidae, and is commonly known as Tamesí molly in the U.S., or Topote del Tamesí in Mexico. It is listed as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature & Natural Resources (IUCN) based on population declines, fragmentation of populations, and decline of habitat quality, and is federally protected by the Mexican government. Poecilia latipunctata has a longitudinal stripe of discontinuous black spots midside of body, a typical characteristic of a molly.
