Information systems and the allure of organisational integration: a cautionary tale from the Irish financial services sector.

The article discusses the implementation of a large-scale information systems (IS) infrastructure called Standard Information System (SIS) project within the credit union movement in Ireland. It explores the difficulties and contradictions associated with information and communication technology (ICT)-enabled organisational integration. It argues that the enthusiasm for facilitating IS innovation on organisational issues has been largely unarticulated. It emphasizes that the political nature of the change process on institutional arrangements for governing the said project were not well suited to manage the risk associated with such an enterprise.
