Abstract
- An essay is presented on self-inflicted imperialism and the Americanizations of television in Europe. It offers a history of American and British models of broadcasting and advertising which includes the advent of the anchorman and the deregulation of the Eighties which reportedly gave a chance for American exporters to add Europe to their list of territories. The author discusses the different notions of Americanization such as popularization, commercialization, professionalization and policy.
