Abstract

In this article the author reflects on the nature of phototherapy or the therapeutic use of the photograph and the photographic process. She relates the therapeutic nature of photography to her personal experiences of teaching and writing about psychoanalysis, art therapy, and its relationship to mental health for most of her working life. Moreover, she emphasizes that the use of photography changes the context in which the picture is viewed for therapist and client.
