Abstract

The article presents an in-depth analysis of the anti-war art of the 1960s American artist Peter Saul. Details are given highlighting the output of the artist criticizing perceived U.S. imperialism in Southeast Asia in general and the Vietnam War in particular. Several examples of Saul's work are cited and examined. Discussion is given noting Saul's distinctive techniques and media choices within the context of the 1960s U.S. mass-media culture, particularly referencing his use of caricature and cartoon and his depiction of sexuality and violence. An overview of several exhibitions launched by Saul during the war are also discussed.
