Abstract

This article discusses the development of an ultrasonic injection molding (UIM) system, whereby ultrasonic waves are applied to injection molding technology. When optical lenses were molded, it was discovered that the process increased the weight when applied immediately after the resin was filled into a cavity. The application of ultrasonic waves also generated oscillatory flow within the cavity. Shrinkage during the packing and holding stages was reduced by oscillatory flow provided by ultrasonic vibrations.
